Cellphone Health Risk Update!!

Attention Blogger Friends and Readers Update 7-31-08:

Please read an interesting comment left on this post by Anonymous-Kathy, who has had her own experience with cellphone storage on the body. Could there be a link to where you actually carry your cellphone and cancer? Another very interesting topic brought to light! Thank you Kathy for sharing your personal insights and bringing your warning to our attention! Much luck in your recovery!

Just this evening another news story on risks of excessive use of cellphones. With more and more folks using cellphones, the debate continues in the long term effects of cellphone usage. Dr. Ronald Herberman director of University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute is proposing a study of cellphone useage and the health risks involved, one of which is cancer.

His advice is to limit your cellphone useage, and he is asking cellphone companies to release cellphone records to aid in his research and studies. He advices to look at low SAR, (Specific Absortion Rate) on manufacturer product features, when choosing a cellphone. One good thing cellphone companies are forging ahead to make safer cellphones!

Hello Ochi,

I guess what the doctors are stressing is excessive use could be harmful! Just something to think abut, like much of everything these days!

You are right Kate, I think I'll look into that topic too. I'm a computer junkie myself, creating photos and writing mostly on my word processor program! Internet time too, hard on the eyes!

For quite a few years I was carrying my cell phone inside my blouse and bra. I did this because it was much easier to carry there than any other place. I either didn't have pockets or my pockets on my jeans were not deep enough for me not to lose it. I'm not sure this had anything to do with my tumor, but, I was diagnosed with breast cancer on April 1, 2008. I have a large tumor right where I used to carry my cell phone inside my blouse. It developed very quickly....within months. I have been going through chemo for five months and will have surgery soon.
Is this coincidence or did the cell phone cause my cancer? I wish I knew.
Just a warning for others who carry their phone on their bodies.

Hello Kathy,

Thank you for stopping by and leaving me such an eye opening comment. I'm sure that Dr. Herberman would be very interested in your case, as he's very much into cancer studies. Especially in correlation to cellphone usage.

I never thought about the storage thing! I'm very concerned, my daughter cannot live without her cellphone, like many other teenagers!

My heart is with you on your health issues, being a woman how scary this must be for you! You might want to think about writing a blog about your experiences.

You can be an inspiration to so many women, who are going through breast cancer! Bringing to light what you have expressed here to me! Please let me know if you do!

I'm definitely going to bring attention to your comments! Thank you, and much luck in your surgery, and future!

I was going to joke about my excessive computer time and cancer until I read Kathy's comment. It's quite sobering and brings the issue front and center.

Hi Jo,

Yes I'm a computer excessive too! Sorry to hear of your cancer Jo, didn't know! Seems everyone gets some type at some time in their lives unfortunately.

I read that Dr. Herberman wants to conduct the studies because he is concerned for prevention of cancer patients in the future. He must have a legitimate reason for doing the studies. Im interested to see how it turns out!

Yes Kathy's comment is really eye opening! The reason I wanted to share her story with everyone!

Hi jo!

I just read Kathy's comment...
I'm glad I came back here today. I couldn't believe my eyes!

It is said that the rate of cancer victims are increasing year by year. Cell phones might be one of the factors...

I must tell my boyfriend! He carries his in his pocket!!!

Jo, No, no! I don't have cancer. I should have said I was going to joke about the cancer risk. Sorry I fumbled my words there...

Jo A. T.B. said...

Glad to hear you don't have cancer Jo. I see what you mean now! Sorry I misinterpreted!

I believe there has been a long ongoing discussion about the health hazard that comes along with using a cellphone. With how tech-savvy our world is today, I don't believe it would be easy to completely eliminate radiation from our lives.

I agree MonaVie technology is constantly evolving and find it hard to determine the long term effects until it's too late. The world must keep up with modernization, but at what expense!
