Beware Petland Petstore Selling "Puppy Mill" Pups!!

I've been notified that the Humane Society has been investigating Petland Incorporated for eight months. In their investigation they found that Petland stores are selling puppies, which are being bred at huge puppy mills in Missouri and the midwest!

Many consumers don't know they're buying and supporting puppy mills by buying their pets at petstores. Please if you are looking to adopt a new pet, look no further than your local pet shelter. There are many dogs and puppies available, and some are full breed dogs just waiting for a good home!

A list of Petland stores are here, and you can take action here to help stop Puppy Mills take the the pledge to Stop Puppy Mills here.

I 'm elated with the accomplishments here in my own state, with the passage of the Pennsylvania Puppy Mill Dog Bill H.B. 2525! Also with the ethical treatment of caged farm animals in California with the passage of Proposition 2.

Thanks to the Humane Society for all they do to protect innocent animals. We can all support and be the voice of these sweet creatures who can't speak for themselves. Beware that you may be purchasing a puppy mill pet!

Pennsylvania Puppy Mill Dog Bill H.B. 2525 Is Now Law!!!

We are making great strides regulating Puppy Mills here in Pennsylvania. The signing of the H.B. 2525 Bill by Governor Rendell into law will help to protect these poor sweet animals from suffering at the hands of greedy puppy mill owners.

How excited I am to receive an email from Mike Markarian, Excutive Vice President of The Humane Society of the United States, informing me of the new law! The mass murder of 80 dogs helped bring the dog bill into priority focus, which my story appears here. Along with many animal lovers here in Pennsylvania, I know regulating Puppy Mills is a major step in the right direction. What is crazy to me is that these are full bred dogs, in which people are paying a lot of money for. If they only knew the conditions they come from!

I just wanted to highlight from Mike Markarian's email letter what changes the law will mandate as quoted here;

"Among other provisions, this legislation will double the minimum floor space for primary enclosures and prohibit the use of wire flooring for dogs over the age of 12 weeks. It requires that dogs have access to an exercise area twice the size of their primary enclosure, eliminates the stacking of dogs on top of each other in cages, and mandates veterinary visits at least every six months. While it's a modest step, and there are imperfections in the new law that will require continued vigilance, it will begin to curb the worst abuses of the puppy mill industry and send a message that man's best friend can no longer be treated like a cash crop."

A law all Pennsylvanians can be proud of! There are many more bills such a s Prop 2 Californians For Humane Farms, and others listed here and all through the Humane Society of the United States Site!

Remember don't buy from a dog pet store, and only buy from a reputable breeder. Your local shelter has many wonderful dogs and cats just waiting for your love!

If you supported the dog Bill which is now a LAW, Thank You! The Pennyslyvania Puppy Mill dogs will be forever grateful for your support, and on going support!

Attention Pennsylvania Dog Lovers! Help Pass H.B. 2525 Dog Bill Into Law!

H.B. 2524 has passed the House of Representatives and is headed for the State Senate! The law would put stricker standards upon commercial breeding kennels and puppy mills. Last month's shooting of 80 dogs at a Puppy Mill in Berks County Pennsylvania has given headway to the bill. The Puppy Mills owned by Elmer and son Ammon Zimmerman were being investigated for unfit cages, living conditions, and the dog inspectors wanted the dogs checked for flea infestations by a Veternarian. He and his son later shot all 80 dogs, to avoid being prosecuted.

We are allowed to shot our own dogs here in Pennsylvania, it's legal! But I'm sure the majority of Pennsylvanians are appalled at this mass dog murder destruction! They were bred in the Puppy Mill, and murdered there how horrible is that! No quality of life, no love, kisses or arms to hold them! I can't fathom a person can be so cruel without feeling. The laws need to be changed, and the laws can't come soon enough for these sweet innocent dogs! As a lifelong Pennsylvanian, I'm sad to know we are known as the Puppy Mill capital of the world. We need to change that perception, because there're so many, many animal lovers in Pennsylvania.

Here is what you can do:

1. Sign the Saving Puppies.com Petition, to stop Puppy Mill abuse.

2.Oprah has a link on her site: Urge Pennsylvania Legislators To Stop Puppy Mills. where we can write or email our Legislators here to vote for the H.B. 2525 bill.

3. Adopt a dog or cat from your local animal shelter, or trusted breeder!

4. Spread the word about Pennsylvania Puppy Mills, and Bill H.B. 2525!

5. Support your local Humane Society or The Humane Society of the United States.

Have you kissed and loved your animals today!

Puppy Mill Raid In Tennessee Hundreds Rescued!!

Video below of Pine Bluffs Puppy Mill Raid Tennessee on June 25, 2008:

The Humane Society of the United States rescued hundreds of dogs in a raid of Pine Bluff Kennels. Be a part of the cause to "Stop Puppy Mills." These poor little things are living their lives in cages only for breeding purposes. We need to stop the horrible conditions these animals are suffering, by not supporting the breeders who profit from their deplorable mills. Laws definitely need to be enacted to protect innocent animals from being abused in the mills, and bred over and over again to be sold. The hundreds of dogs taken in the raid will be placed into shelters, and put up for adoption.

Adopt a pet from your local shelter today! With the present declining economy, the pet adoption rate has gone way down. Consider adopting from your local shelter, never purchase a pet from a pet store, you'll be supporting puppy mills if you do! Shelter pets are the most loving pets in the world! More information on the Humane Society of the United States site on how you can help take action to "Stop Puppy Mills," today!

Take the pledge and place the "Stop Puppy Mills," banner to the right on your site or blog today. Just click on the banner for more information.

I could not stop thinking about the Oprah show last Friday. Her segment covered puppy mills. Sadly the largest one is right here in my own state, which I had no idea. You will be totally amazed at what goes on in these puppy mills. Oprah's show was very educational in showing the puppy mills, and what the animals go through! I had to turn off the TV at one point where they were euthanizing dogs at a shelter to make room! These were perfectly healthy and beautiful dogs. My heart was broken just thinking about it! They have to put down more than 40 dogs per day, could you imagine having to pick the ones to put down!! Here is an article on Oprah about Fort Worth Animal Shelter: http://www.oprah.com/world/global/slide/200804/global_20080404_114.jhtml
